Syllabus
One of the aims of this course is to introduce instrumentation and
data acquisition techniques in the context of Mechanical Engineering.
There will be 1 or 2 lectures per week covering the following topics.
- Transducers and Measurement Systems
- Analogue & Digital Signal Processing
- Statistics and Experiment Design
- Data Acquisition Hardware and Software

Lecture Times
- Tuesday 12noon-1pm, Room 50-N202
- Thursday 3pm-4pm, Room 45-210
Initially, will be 2 lectures per week.
This will revert to one lecture per week (on Tuesdays) after the fourth week.
Laboratory Work
In the later part of the semester, practicals will be held
on Thursdays 3pm-5pm, in Room 45-G06.
A detailed schedule will be supplied later.

Assessment
- Individual assignments and laboratory reports (10% of total)
- Group project (20% of total)
- The end-of-semester examination will be closed-book and of
2 hours duration. (70% of total)
All assignments will have to be submitted by the specified deadlines
for marking.
Late submissions will not be accepted.
Clear evidence of individual effort must be included including
a signed statement on the group project report which details the
division of labour.
