Laboratory Class 1 - Kinematics of Mechanisms

Things to do before the Session

1. Read the objectives and the tasks for this practical (as HTML and in PDF format)
2. Read the Question Sheet (you do not need to print this, it will be distributed during the laboratory session)
3. Examine the Table that you will use to record the piston and valve displacements against crankshaft angles (you do not need to print this, it will be distributed during the laboratory session)
4. Read the Notes for the Tutor (this is what the tutor will go through during the sesion and it might help to read the stuff beforehand)

The following will be handed out during the Session by the tutor

1. One graph paper for each group
2. Question sheet for each student
3. The table to note the crankshaft angle and piston and valve displacements for each group

What you will submit during the Session

1. Each individual student
• Student Safety Declaration Form-- filled in and signed
2. As the Group (three groups per session)
• The Table of Piston/Valve Displacement against crank angle (with your measurements taken during the prac)
• The plot of piston displacement versus the crank angle (predicted AND measured)
3. Each individual student
   • Derivation of Equation-1
   • The Question Sheet
